Patternmaking Live Virtual Workshop // 5 weeks // Starts April 28
You can create truly one-of-a-kind designs once you learn the basics of patternmaking!
Students learn how to manipulate basic block patterns (called slopers) to create an infinite number of styles. We teach both the pivotal transfer and slash and spread methods for creating any silhouette from a basic pattern as well as the fundamentals of creating your own patterns from scratch. These foundational techniques are a must have for anyone desiring to alter existing patterns or turn their original designs into real life garments. Patternmaking for traditional men's garments is not covered in this class. Manipulations will be taught on half scale slopers.
Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced. You must have some experience working with other sewing patterns, making some garments, and understanding basic design changes or fit adjustments.
What you need at home: We will provide you with PDF templates for printing at home or at a copy shop. You will need to purchase 2 yards of muslin or another lightweight cotton fabric in a light color that can be easily marked. You will also need a sewing machine, thread, seam ripper, ruler, pins, scotch tape, a pencil and eraser. A tracing wheel is highly recommended. Many of these items can be bought in our Amazon Store.
Virtual Class Info: This is a VIRTUAL CLASS hosted live on Zoom. Before your class, you will receive an email from the instructor with Zoom access instructions as well as the supply list and any other information you may need to participate. You will log in at the designated times, and the instructor will walk you through the exercises for each week. In each 90 minute Zoom session, your instructor will demonstrate a foundational technique and a series of related silhouette and style manipulations as well as answer student questions. You will then be able to practice these exercises at home between sessions (expect about 2 hours of homework each week if you intend to practice manipulations at home). We will record each Zoom meeting and you can re-watch any part of the class, so even if you need to miss part of the live class you can still catch up.
Class size is limited.
