Live Virtual Sewing 201: Dress // 4 Days // Starts March 14th
MAKE. YOUR. OWN. CLOTHES. Hey, we know you can do it. We demystify the garment making process through the construction of a satisfyingly simple women's dress or top. You'll learn how to read and follow a pattern and develop the skills you need to move on to more complicated pieces.
- Introduction to patterns, woven apparel fabrics, body measurements and size charts
- Pattern layout and cutting fabric on-grain
- Seam finishes
- Neckline finishing
- Darts for shaping
- In-seam pockets
- Sewing curves and hems
Pattern Used: Terrace Dress by Liesl & Co. This is a beginner-friendly pullover dress with scoop neck, center back seam, bust darts, slight A-line shape, in-seam pockets, two sleeve options, and an optional fabric belt for shaping. Can be made into a top, tunic, or maxi length dress. Even if this dress is not your ideal style, you will learn all the necessary foundational techniques to move onto to other garments that suit you better!
Skill Level: Beginner. You should feel comfortable threading a sewing machine and sewing straight seams, but may be new to using patterns or making clothing. You have taken our Sewing 101 class or have equivalent experience.
You may take this class even if you have taken Sewing 201: Pants.
What tools need at home: A sewing machine (new or used, modern or vintage is fine), all purpose polyester thread, fabric scissors, bobbin (this should come with your machine), seam ripper and pins. These can all be bought on our amazon store.
Project materials not included. Pattern & materials not included. You will be purchasing a digital copy of the pattern as well as your fabric & thread. You do not need to bring any fabric to the first class. The instructor will go over everything you need for the second session.
Virtual Class Info: This is a VIRTUAL CLASS hosted live on Zoom. Before your class, you will receive an email from the instructor with Zoom access instructions as well as the supply list and any other information you may need to participate. You will log in at the designated times, and the instructor will walk you and the other participants through each step of the construction process. We will record each Zoom meeting and you can re-watch any part of the class, so even if you need to miss part of the live class you can still catch up. All students may be expected to do up to an hour of extra "homework" in between sessions to stay on pace
