Draping // 8 Weeks // Starts May 31

Fashion draping is a patternmaking process where ideas are put first to the dressform, then to paper. The technique is done by pinning and positioning fabric directly on a dressform using muslin fabric, then marking the placement of darts, tucks, pleats or other design elements. The draped fabric is then removed to create a trued-u paper pattern that can then be further adjusted or sewn as is out of fashion fabric.

Draping students will focus on the design, patternmaking and construction of one garment which may be completely original or inspired by an existing piece.

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced. You must have some experience working with other sewing patterns, making some garments, and understanding basic design changes or fit adjustments. Taking Sewing 301 beforehand (or having similar experience) is recommended.
