Sewing 101 // 4 weeks //
11/20/2020 Update: We are unable to hold in-person classes due to new City and State restrictions. Please check back later.
When in doubt, start at the very beginning. This course is designed to give novice stitchers a comprehensive foundation in machine sewing. Students will graduate with the skills they need to make a project from start to finish, and will gain the confidence to begin tackling anything.
**UPDATE: While we are operating with new COVID-19 safety protocols, we have had to modify our projects for this class. Instead of a fold-over bag, students will make a lined tote bag with a pocket, a zipper pouch and a mask. The same skills will be learned with the addition of working with elastic and making pleats (bonus skills!). We have a small selection of materials available for an additional cost of $20 for those students who do not wish to shop during this time.
- Machine threading and operation: sewing straight lines, pivoting, backstitching, changing machine settings, troubleshooting
- Fabric selection
- Pattern layout, grainlines, and cutting techniques
- Seaming and topstitching
- Fusing interfacing
- Installing a zipper
- Incorporating a lining
Skill Level: Novice. No experience needed.
Project materials not included. You do not need to bring anything to the first week and we will go over all the supplies you need to purchase by the second class. For the time being, supplies may be purchased in studio for an additional $20.
4 Weeks; 12 Course Hours
