Sewing 101 // 4 weeks // Click for Dates

When in doubt, start at the very beginning. This course is designed to give novice stitchers a comprehensive foundation in machine sewing. Students will graduate with the skills they need to make a project from start to finish, and will gain the confidence to begin tackling anything.

Students will make a tote bag with lining and interior pocket, and will learn how to design and make a lined bag with zipper.

Skills learned:

- Machine threading and operation: sewing straight lines, pivoting, backstitching, changing machine settings, troubleshooting
- Fabric selection
- Making pocket
- Pattern layout, grainlines, and cutting techniques
- Seaming and topstitching
- Fusing interfacing
- Installing a zipper
- Simple pattern drafting for bags
- Incorporating a lining

Skill Level: Novice. No experience needed. We provide machines although you are welcome to bring your own.

Project materials not included. You do not need to bring anything to the first week and we will go over all the supplies you need to purchase by the second class (1/2 yard of fabric and lining, thread, strap material and zipper).
