Sewing Knits: Cardigan // 2 Days // Nov 2 & 3
Learn to sew with knits! Stretchy fabrics make up a large portion of our daily wardrobe from loungewear to activewear, so learning to sew with them is a huge skill builder. We lead you through the basics so you understand the characteristics of knit fabrics and how to tame them.
Workshop project: Participants will create a women's or men's open-front cardigan with different length options.
Pattern options:
Marlo Sweater by True Bias. Cropped or full length relaxed fit in sizes 0-18 and sizes 14-30
Men's Cardigan by Wardrobe By Me. Relaxed fit with shawl collar or placket edge options in sizes 2XS to 4XL
Skills learned:
- Working with a pattern, taking body measurements, reading size charts
- Basic pattern modifications, if needed
- Rotary cutting
- Sewing stretch stitches on a regular sewing machine or a serger
- Attaching bands
- Setting in sleeves
-Buttonholes and buttons in knit fabrics
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner, Intermediate. You MUST already feel comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine, but you may be new to sewing garments. If you are a novice sewer, please check out our Sewing 101 course instead.
Pattern and materials not included. You will be purchasing and printing your own digital pattern, and sourcing your fabric before class. Once you register, you will get an automatic email prompting you to download your supply list for this class.
8 Workshop Hours. This is a two-day workshop. There will be a break halfway through.
Section 1: Saturday, November 2nd from 2:30-7:30pm & Sunday, November 3rd from 1:30-4:30pm
