Alterations Workshop // 1 Day // Nov 17th
That pile of clothes in need of TLC that you'll "get to someday"? Well, that someday is just around the corner with our Alterations Workshop.
Welcome to our Alterations Workshop where you can bring items from home that need love and attention and get started with professional guidance and supervision.
How it works: Bring items (clothes, home decor, bags & more) from home that need light to medium mending, altering or adjusting and our instructor will guide you through the process needed for your item in the time frame allotted. Smaller projects may be completed within a 90 min slot while items in need of more work may need to be finished at home. For items that must be finished at home, your instructor can send you home with a "game plan". You will also have the opportunity to learn from the projects others bring in.
What we provide: In addition to the guidance of your instructor, you will have access to all of our studio tools including sewing machines, sergers, hand sewing accessories, cutting tools and more. We will also provide commonly used materials in mending such as interfacing and embroidery floss. You will have access to our bin of scrap fabric although we cannot guarantee availability of specific fabrics.
What to bring: Come with any additional replacement items like buttons, zippers or extra fabric for patching. We also recommend that you bring a spool of thread in a color that matches your item (we have black and white thread for your use).
If you are doing a project that you believe will require machine stitching, you must already know how to use a machine. We will not be teaching machine basics.
Examples of suitable projects:
Missing buttons & broken zippers
Hemming or shortening or lengthening
Torn or worn-through items
Taking in or letting out
Waistband adjustments
Basic fit alterations or silhouette adjustments
If you are unsure of whether your project is suitable for this workshop, email Meg at megan@butcherssewshop.com. Unsuitable projects are those that involve considerable changes in silhouette and fit (think "turning my tiered wedding dress into an every day jumpsuit") or cannot be managed on a home sewing machine (think heavy leather).
Participants must be over 16
$50 per 2 hour time slot. Eight people max per 2 hour period. You can register for multiple time slots.
