Sewing 201: Pants // 4 Weeks // Click for Dates
It's an age-old Home Ec philosophy that pajama pants are the best garment sewing project for beginners. Sure, we get it. But we want to elevate that idea and introduce you to more refined (but still beginner-friendly) techniques that result in a pair of pants you can wear out in the world while still looking sharp.
Join us for Sewing 201: Pants Edition! Learn the ins and outs of garment-making using woven fabric and a professional pattern, and walk away in a pair of tapered or wide-leg trousers with unique waistband and pocket details. Pattern options available in sizes 0 to 28.
Pietra Pants by Closet Core Patterns (women's fit) - tapered with partial elastic waist (size 0-30).
Clyde Work Pants by Elizabeth Suzann (women's fit)- tapered slim fit with side panel pockets and elastic waist (size 000 to 28).
Fremantle Pants (unisex) - tapered fit with in seam pockets and elastic waist (size 32.5" hip to 61.5" hip).
Loose Linen Pants (men's fit) - loose straight let fit with in seam pockets, elastic waist, and shorts option (sizes 2XS-4XL).
- Reading size charts & choosing a size
- Cutting woven fabric on grain, understanding pattern markings
- Finishing seams
- Elastic waistband. Learn stitching in the ditch, topstitching, and understitching.
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner. This is a 200-level course, which means you must have taken our Sewing 101 course or have equivalent experience. You should feel comfortable threading a sewing machine and sewing straight lines at an accurate seam allowance. You may be new to sewing garments or working with professional sewing patterns.
You may take this class even if you have taken Sewing 201: Dresses.
4 Weeks; 12 hours of instruction
Materials and pattern are not included in this class. You will be responsible for purchasing your fabric, notions, and the digital version of the pattern.
